Email update on our travelling bear
Jade to Mr Lees
Hi how's it going.? I hope Goldie is having lots of fun. Has Goldie played a game of Cricket yet?. I hear that you have won three times in a row, CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Today someone is coming in
to our class room and will be asking questions about Goldie at cricket with you. The person will also be taking photos of some of us to put in the Newspaper. We've been laughing at some of the photos that you have put on the blog. I put a question on the wall and was wondering if you could mention this to the White Ferns Will the White Ferns remember Goldie forever?
From:Jade
Mr Lees reply
Jade and all room 11
Yes Goldie is having a wonderful holiday and is being very spoilt by all the girls in the White Ferns especially Katie Martin who is Goldies best friend.
The other day we took Goldie to a tea plantation where they grow tea on small trees for the cup of tea your mum and dad might have at home. There were 4000 ladies who worked 10 hours a day picking tea leaves off the small trees and they only get paid $30 every 2 weeks. We didn't like the way the ladies seemed to do all the hard work and all our girls agreed it would never happen in New Zealand.
Goldie has seen so many things he didn't like but we explain to him that our own country is such a good place compared to all the poor people and the starving children in Bangladesh.
He has found the very hot weather a bit tiring at times and we have had to give him a swim in the pool at the hotel. He is a good swimmer now!!!
He also had his photo in the local newspaper when he was out with the girls at a market one day and he bought a new scarf for Mrs Lees to wear to school in the winter.
Although it has been a wonderful holiday for Goldie he said he misses Room 11 and is keen to get back to see everyone and tell you all about the Cricket and the country of Bangladesh.
See you all in about 10 days. I can't wait to be back in Central Otago. My favourite place

What does Goldie do when the White Ferns have a day off?
I think Mr Lees knows how much Mrs Lees loves tea so he was really pleased to take Goldie to visit where tea grows in Bangladesh.
Tucked away in the backpack, the lucky bear listened to the workers tell him about how they dry the leaves before weighing and packing them.
It got a bit hot in the backpack so Goldie got out to explore the factory.
At the end of the visit Goldie got to meet some of the children who lived at the village. Can you spot him in this team shot?

Two wins to the White Ferns
It's been an exciting week for Goldie over with the White Ferns. First of all it was an amazing win against Australia and last night another victory against Ireland. Goldie was part of the presentation with Mr Lees and Suzie! Maybe he'll bring one of these fancy trophies home as they are collecting quite a few.
A find out challenge to earn 2 warm fuzzies ... who do the White Ferns play in their next game in the T20 World Cup? Email the answer to earn THREE fuzzies.

Goldie's Big Day at the Cricket Ground
Our little man has been right in amongst it today as the White Ferns prepared for their first big game tomorrow. He has been in interviews and was watching from his own special seat in the team box.
Can you see him up in the grandstand?
He even got a ride with Sara McGlashan on the rollers that prepare the wicket for the game.
Moving on from Dhaka to Sylhet
After a week of practice, the White Ferns flew to Sylhet to get ready for the World Cup of Twenty20 cricket which starts tomorrow.
At the airport Goldie was carried through by Katie Perkins. You can see the security guard waved something over him. This is to check he isn't carrying anything he shouldn't.
A trip through the xray machine was the next highlight for our busy little bear before he headed onto the plane.

Goldie hanging out with Suzie
After another long day at practice, Goldie is hanging out with the captain Suzie, and looks like he is whispering a few tips in her ear. I think she is giving the thumbs up for the fantastic google drawings some of you wrote about her in your drive this week !

Reporting in from Bangladesh
Room 11 were beginning to wonder what had happened since Mr Lees and Goldie had arrived in Bangladesh. Today we finally had some communication. Mr Lees explained that Bangladesh is a very hard place to get organised.
The bus ride to practice takes an hour and a half for the White Ferns. The temperature is 38 degrees so it's very hot to be running around chasing a ball and keeping fit.
Goldie sits up the front of the team bus on his way to practice.
In the hotel where Goldie is staying Mr Lees has been eating vegetable curries. They have to make sure they don't drink water from the tap because it is polluted. They also cannot eat meat like chicken because it can carry bad germs that would make them sick. Bangladesh is a very poor country. The government doesn't have enough money to keep the people well fed and healthy.
A lot of people wonder why they go there to play cricket but the sport helps the people feel happy and they love watching the game.

Checking in at Dubai
Goldie seems to have grown very big since he left New Zealand!
In this picture he is checking in at Dubai airport ready for his last flight to Bangladesh. It is now 19 hours since he left home with Mr Lees and they are very tired. Only five hours to go!

First stop Melbourne
These photos of me were sent by my new friend Katey Martin, she is a wicketkeeper for the White Ferns. Mr Lees got it wrong and I was very confused to stop in Melbourne and not Sydney.
I'm not too sure of all these Australian animals that she has put me with!

Goldie's Last Day in Room 11
Goldie had a busy day today being shared around the children in Room 11. He was allowed to sit on their desks and many children made pencil sketches of him in his new uniform.
Finally Hannah, Holden, Harry, Pablo and Casey packed him into the car so he could head home with Mrs Lees to help Mr Lees pack his suitcase. They took some photos of him in the car and set off the car alarm!
